Inmarsat was awarded a contract by Lufthansa in October 2015 to provide on-board connectivity services for more than 150 aircraft in the Lufthansa Continental European fleet. The contract officially opened a 10-year strategic cooperation between Lufthansa Group and Inmarsat, and provided a framework to extend services to other airlines of the group.

The launch of GX for Aviation follows a successful collaboration with Lufthansa Technology and Lufthansa Systems, which, together with Inmarsat, began to install hardware and software for broadband solutions on selected aircraft in the Lufthansa fleet.

The airline will use the advanced new JetWave terminal manufactured by Inmarsat partner Honeywell Aerospace to connect to the GX network. More than 300 aircraft have already used the system, and more aircraft will use it in the future. The dedicated terminal is easy to install and maintain. For any cabin connection solution on the market, the terminal can guarantee the lowest downtime, allowing installation with minimal labor and using standard tools available in the maintenance hangar.
